Hau Giang Solar Power Plant officially achieves Commercial Operation Date (COD)

On 26 December, 2020, Hau Giang Solar Power plant with the capacity of 35MWp officially achieved COD. The plant will produce about 50,800 MWh per annum. This is the first solar power operation in Hau Giang, contributing to the efficient exploitation of the provincial solar radiation potential and in line with the development strategy of renewable energy in Vietnam as well as general planning for solar power in the province.

The plant is built on an area of 33ha in Hoa An commune, Phung Hiep district, Hau Giang province. Halcom Vietnam Jsc. is the investor, and VKT – Hoa An Solar Power Jsc. (a member of Halcom Vietnam) is the SPV. GE (General Electric) and IPC Group were the joint contractors of the project, in which, GE supplied PV panels, cables, inverters and other electrical equipment and IPC was responsible for design, construction and operations & maintenance after COD.

The project was implemented within a short period of 6 months since June’20 with the joint efforts of Investor, Partner, Contractors and Owner’s Engineer. The key construction items of the project were completed as per the committed schedule namely installation of 79,000 solar panels, 9 inverters, control room, transformer station and the 110 kV line connecting Vi Thanh – Long My with the length of 6.83 km. To achieve this success, Halcom Vietnam received strong support from Hau Giang government authorities on policies, compensation and site clearance. The project also received good cooperation and support from the local residents.

Mr. Saurabh Mathur, CEO of Halcom Vietnam Jsc. said, “This first solar power plant in Hau Giang will achieve an annual revenue of about 80 billion dong, contributing to the provincial budge and taxes. The project, with a total investment fund of 700 billion dong, created employment for a number of local residents. In addition, to execute this project, Halcom Vietnam had to put a lot of effort, energy and resources to ensure that it is completed safely, on schedule and as per international quality standards. We hope that this success will create motivation for other investment projects in the province.”

“This is the phase I of the project and we have received in-principle approval for Phase II  from Hau Giang PPC.  We are now implementing the legal procedures to expand the project with an additional capacity of 40MWp to maximize available infrastructure & utilize the existing incentive policy of the province and  hence make additional contribution to the socio-economic development and local budget.”, the CEO shared on the project expansion plan.
