As part of the 10th Session of the 15th National Assembly, on October 20, the opening day of the session, National Assembly deputies discussed the Government’s Report on the implementation of the 2025 socio-economic development plan as well as the overall results achieved during the 2021–2025 period.
Many deputies highly commended the Government’s flexible and effective governance amid a rapidly changing global environment, particularly in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, describing the 2021–2025 term as one that achieved remarkable successes in socio-economic recovery and development.
Mr. Nguyen Quang Huan, a National Assembly Deputy representing Ho Chi Minh City and Chairman of the Board of Directors of Halcom Vietnam JSC, stated that the Government’s report provided a comprehensive and accurate reflection of the country’s outstanding achievements, demonstrating the tremendous efforts of the entire political system. According to Mr. Huan, these accomplishments could be regarded as remarkable successes, as Vietnam had overcome numerous challenges while maintaining economic growth, preserving macroeconomic stability, and improving people’s living standards. However, he also pointed out that the report had not sufficiently addressed environmental protection, which he emphasized is a fundamental pillar of sustainable development.
According to Mr. Nguyen Quang Huan, sustainable development must be built upon three fundamental pillars: the economy, society, and the environment. If too much emphasis is placed on the first two while overlooking the environmental pillar, development cannot be truly sustainable. He therefore recommended that the Government place greater emphasis on environmental protection in its future plans and reports, ensuring a balanced approach between economic growth, social development, and the preservation of the environment for future generations.
