Today, on 17th November 2020, Vietnam Union of Science and Technology Associations (VUSTA) held a seminar on Waste incineration power generation and arising issues; Solid waste treatment technology options with the participation of many experienced experts and waste treatment to power technology development companies in the industry.
Domestic and industrial waste has become a pain in the world in general and Vietnam is no exception. On average, each Vietnamese generates 1.2kg of waste every day. If the population of Vietnam is rounded up to 100 million people, the amount of waste is 120,000 tons per day. Many places have no landfill sites left. The process of transporting garbage from the city to the landfill is also polluting, making people unable to bear it, which lead to local blocking ways of the garbage truck, in order to demand solutions. Old or spontaneous incineration plants still release a large amount of toxic fumes to the environment. The need for effective waste disposal while protecting the environment has become more urgent than ever.
The seminar focused on the current situation of waste treatment in Vietnam, thereby analyzing the waste treatment options that have been applied in the country such as incineration technology, power generation, thermal gasification, low-temperature gasification and plasma gasification. Industry leading experts have made many valuable contributions to the things to note in current incineration technology. One of the things to note is that the garbage nature of Vietnam is different from that of developed countries: our garbage is not sorted at source or has a higher humidity, etc. Since then, the application of technology from foreign country also needs to be examined carefully.
In addition, the content of the legal system in public service bidding is also concerned and questioned by businesses. Investors and lenders both hope to have a preferential policy more suitable to the specific characteristics of the waste power industry.
In the seminar, Chairman of Halcom Vietnam Joint Stock Company Nguyen Quang Huan also commented on the gasification technology introduced in the seminar and compared this technology with that of developed countries in the world. He commented that there are many possible technologies, however, if we can successfully research a technology of Vietnam, it would be great. In addition, Mr. Huan also said that the current bidding process in Vietnam is not consistent, each province applies a different regulation. There are also many problems in the technology bidding process.
In general, the application of waste incineration technology in Vietnam is no longer new, but the problem is how to ensure economy, ensure the environment and ensure garbage security. It is hoped that in the coming time, the waste power industry in Vietnam will make a breakthrough, make the most of the waste and provide stable electricity for consumers.
